How to Apply
2008
Dear Foundation Grant Applicant,
The Foundation for Salem Public Education was created to provide funding for educational experiences that go beyond the scope of those funded by the school department. Grants of up to $750.00 are awarded on a competitive basis for proposals submitted by faculty, staff and individuals associated with the Salem Public Schools. The Foundation strives to support pilot programs, special projects, and the purchase of educational materials and equipment as relates to the following goals:
- To fund projects which further students’ educational experiences in science, mathematics, the arts, and humanities.
- To fund projects which help students develop talents according to their needs and interests, become lifelong learners, and effective citizens.
- To create an environment that fosters the pursuit of excellence.
- To work with the business community to make schools a true community enterprise.
- To promote and coordinate community volunteerism and participation in the schools
Proposals are evaluated through a “blind”, competitive process according to the following criteria:
- How well the project meets the Foundation’s goals.
- The quality and creativity of the project’s design and execution.
- The inclusion of an evaluation method so that, after completion, the success can be measured against the funds expended for it.
Please be aware that due to limited funds, new proposals will be given higher priority than programs previously funded. The Foundation does not cover travel expenses associated with a project; if your project has associated travel expenses, please let us know how they will be covered. Projects requesting funding for books must be combined with a creative project. Finally, all grant applications must be signed by your building principal. All outstanding receipts from the 2006-2007 grant cycle must be submitted in order to be eligible to apply for a 2008 grant.
Proposals must be typed and postmarked or received by Tuesday, March 18, 2008 . Awards will be announced in May 2008. Grant applicants may submit more than one grant proposal request for consideration.
